I finally got some fresh photos and feedback from another trip out on the Ébrié Lagoon this week.

Captain's Log
After more than thirty years as a professional yacht captain — from the early days sailing off South Africa, through busy charter seasons in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, to captaining M/Y Labrador — I'm now preparing the next adventure on the Ébrié Lagoon in Abidjan.
These logs are my personal reflections, plans, and stories as I build Captain Murray's — intimate, relaxed experiences aboard practical pontoon boats, with dreams of classic restorations further down the line.
Come sail with me, in words for now.
Romantic Sunset Cruise – Saturday 2 May 2026
We had our very first official charter with a great group of Russian guests. The plan was a full day on the lagoon with fishing and beach time in Assinie.
I've been asked this question many times over the years, usually by someone standing on a dock looking at a boat:
The Story of Abidjan: From Fishing Village to Vibrant Lagoon City. After sailing many of the world's waters for over thirty years, I've seen plenty of ports and cities, but few have a story as fascinating as Abidjan.
Captain's Log 060426 – A Personal Reflection
Why Abidjan? What Makes the Ébrié Lagoon Special. After more than thirty years sailing some of the world's most famous waters — from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, and from the early days crewing off Durban and Cape Town.
I've only had the chance to explore the Ébrié Lagoon once so far, but that single trip left a strong impression on me.
Looking at boats for the Ébrié Lagoon, one thing is clear right now: I need to begin with something practical and reliable.
The rain is falling steadily against the windows here in Swords, but my mind keeps drifting south to the warm, calm waters of the Ébrié Lagoon in Abidjan.
