Captain’s Log 210726 – What We’re Learning from Our First Guests on the Lagoon

It's been really rewarding to see the first charters happening on the Ébrié Lagoon, even while I'm still here in Ireland. Every trip gives us new insights, and we're quickly learning what works best for our guests.

Here are some of the most important things we've learned so far:

The Power of Personalisation:

Guests really appreciate when we ask questions upfront and tailor the experience. Whether it's their choice of music, preferred snacks and drinks, or adjusting the route to include more quiet mangrove spots or better sunset views — the small details make a big difference. Many have told us it felt more like a private outing with friends than a standard tour.

Sunset Cruises Remain the Favourite:

The classic sunset cruise is proving to be the most popular. The golden light on the water, the peaceful atmosphere as the city lights come on, and the chance to relax completely seems to be exactly what people are looking for. Romantic couples especially love the calmer, more intimate moments.

Flexibility Wins:

Some guests come wanting to fish for a while, others just want to swim or take photos. Being able to change plans on the day according to the weather, tide, or the group's energy has been key. Guests notice and value that we're not stuck to a rigid schedule.

The Lagoon Still Feels Special:

Even guests who have travelled a lot say the mix of peaceful nature and the proximity to Abidjan's energy is unique. The contrast between gliding through quiet mangroves and seeing the city skyline never fails to impress.

Small Comforts Matter:

Cold drinks ready when they arrive, good shaded seating, and a friendly, attentive crew make people feel welcome right away. We're also learning which snacks work best and what extra items (towels, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, Bluetooth speaker, and plenty of water) we should have on board more regularly.

We still have plenty to improve — better booking systems, more photo and video content, and building a crew that really understands the hospitality scene. But the early feedback has been very positive and encouraging.
