Captain’s Log 040526 – First Impressions of Abidjan from the Water
Captain's Log 04/05/2026
I finally got some fresh photos and feedback from another trip out on the Ébrié Lagoon this week.
Even though I'm still here in Ireland, seeing the images and hearing how it went made me feel like I was almost there.

The lagoon looked calm and beautiful. The water was glassy in places, the mangroves created those quiet, peaceful channels I remembered from my first visit, and the contrast with the Abidjan skyline in the distance is really striking. One moment you feel like you're deep in nature, the next you look up and see the modern city right there — that mix is special.
The crew told me the guests really enjoyed it. They relaxed quickly, took lots of photos, and loved the peaceful spots away from the busier areas.
It's strange being so far away while these charters are actually happening, but it also feels exciting. Every new trip gives us more knowledge — which routes work best, where the light is beautiful at sunset, how the boat handles with guests on board, and what people enjoy most.
My first real impressions from the water still hold strong: the Ébrié Lagoon has something unique. It's not over-commercialised. It still feels authentic. And it has the potential to offer the kind of relaxed, personal experience I've always wanted to create.
We're taking it one charter at a time, learning as we go.
I can't wait to be out there myself soon.
