Captain’s Log 030626 – The Living Heart of the Ébrié Lagoon

Captain's Log 030626
After more than thirty years sailing the world's oceans, I've learned that every body of water has its own character. The Ébrié Lagoon is one of the most alive and special places I've ever encountered.
To many people it's just "the water around Abidjan", but it's far more than that. It's a vast, living ecosystem where fresh river water mixes with the Atlantic. The huge mangrove forests act as nurseries for fish, natural filters, and protectors of the shoreline.
On nearly every trip we're reminded how rich it is. We see Goliath Herons standing tall, African Fish Eagles soaring overhead, kingfishers diving, and pelicans gliding low at sunset. Below the surface there's a whole world of fish. It really is a productive and beautiful place.
But I also know this richness is fragile. As Abidjan grows fast, the lagoon faces real pressure from pollution and mangrove loss.
That's why, right from the beginning, I made a personal promise to myself: a percentage of our profits will go back into protecting the lagoon and supporting the local communities who depend on it.
In our first year we will donate 5% of net profits. As the business becomes stable, we plan to increase this to 10%. So every charter you take with us will help protect the very waters we sail on.
I've seen too many beautiful places around the world damaged. I don't want that to happen here. If we're going to build a business on this lagoon, then we should also do our part to look after it.
The Ébrié Lagoon still has so much life and beauty. With care and respect, I believe we can help keep it that way for a long time to come.
Would you like to sail with us and be part of something that gives back?
